This is a portrait of my late son Thao and his best friend Jack. I used the barn wood in memory of my son’s love for finding barns on the country side wherever we drove. The portrait is made using 4 different types of wood veneers and took nearly 50 hours to complete. The marquetry was then inlaid into the back of a mirror by stripping the silver from the mirror and then carefully positioning the portrait to sit in place. This technique can be used for many similar applications.
